Our Support

Bateman Island Improvement Project Sponsor

In 2002, the Tri-Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau announced Bechtel's sponsorship of three legacy projects for three rivershore area. Bateman Island was selected as a legacy project as a result of a series of fires in the summer of 2001 that burned nearly 90 percent of the island's vegetation. Bechtel worked with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to clean up trash and debris, spray 50 acres of noxious weeds, and revegetating about half of the 160-acre island. A team of three Bechtel employees led the effort to complete the project in the spring of 2002.
