Playground of Dreams

In September 1999, the original Playground of Dreams was completed at the east end of Columbia Park in Kennewick, Wash. The playground was constructed by volunteers in just five days. An arsonist destroyed the structure in November 2003, but Tri-Cities residents once again came together to rebuild it. In 2019, it was rebuilt as the Toyota of Tri-Cities Playground of Dreams with updated and more inclusive play structures.

Our Support

Playground of Dreams Donor

In 1998, about $100,000 was raised from three primary sponsors -- Bechtel Hanford, KNDU-TV, and Tri-Cities Radio -- and secondary sponsors -- Lamb Weston, Columbia Center Rotary, and The Home Depot -- to build the Playground of Dreams. Bechtel also contributed to the rebuild effort after the 2003 arson.

Playground of Dreams Volunteers

Bechtel employees volunteered during the original build and the second build, which became known as "the Phoenix Project." A Bechtel project manager served as lead for the construction captains for both projects.
