Second Harvest of Tri-Cities

The Vit Plant has partnered with Second Harvest for decades to run an annual food drive. While the partnerships, timing, or format of the food drive has changed, the outcome has remained the same: Vit Plant employees have dug deep into their own pockets and supported Second Harvest with hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of pounds of food over the years.

Bechtel has supported Second Harvest's Feeding Kids First program since 2016, donating nearly $100,000. Feeding Kids First focuses on getting healthy food to children through school food pantries and the Bite 2 Go program, which provides school children with food supplies over the weekend during the school year. Vit Plant employees have also volunteered for Bite 2 Go packing nights, packing kits with nonperishable foods to be discretely included in students' backpacks on Friday afternoons.

In 2010, Bechtel donated $5,000 to Second Harvest's capital campaign.

Bechtel has been a sponsor for Second Harvest's annual Bite Out of Hunger fundraiser for multiple years.

Vit Plant employees have volunteered at several sort nights at Second Harvest over the years. At one sort night in 2023, Vit Plant employees sorted 5,000 pounds of carrots and black beans to be easily distributed to families in need in the community.

Vit Plant employees have volunteered at several mobile markets and food banks for Second Harvest over the years. These mobile markets bring food to different areas of the community, reaching more people, particularly those who may have limited transportation options or mobility issues.
